I had every good intentions to write this post the minute I came back from my holiday, but you know how it is, things crop up and time flies by and before you know it, days and weeks pass. I could  have just shelved the post I had intended to write, after all, it is about our holiday and you may well have had enough of me by now rambling on about how wonderful our week away was, but, bare with me, there’s a reason why, two weeks after our return, I am indeed going to press ahead with it.  I’m not going to tell you what that reason is just yet. You are just going to have to tune into my little blog in the very near future to find out. I can say though that I am just a little excited about it, and that it’s something I’ve never done before!

If you have read my previous posts, you will know by now that me and Mr R spent a fabulous week in Porthleven in south-west Cornwall. We love it there so much that we keep returning time and time again. Porthleven is a beautiful historic fishing village not that far from the town of Helston. Many people recognise it from images in newspapers and on the TV when it was battered by the winter storms last year. Last year we arrived a couple of days after the last big storm to hit the village and saw for ourselves the damage inflicted by the wrath of the sea. Just over a year later, the village has recovered and the damage repaired. Although it is a popular destination for holiday makers with its lively harbour, great surfing and fabulous beach, it is also a thriving community that pulls together in times of need and let’s it’s hair down when it’s time to have a little fun.

Anyway, enough of my waffling. Let me show you around my very favourite village in Cornwall.

I like to give Mr R a little me time once in a while whilst I go for a little wander around the fab little shops in the village. There’s plenty to choose from. From gift shops to galleries. Boutiques to delis, fishmongers, bakeries and art supplies. There’s a branch of Boots, a post office and a Costcutters for those everyday items that everyone needs. A couple of times a week from April to October you will also find a small craft market selling locally made goods.

Porthleven has become something of a foodies mecca. There are so many fabulous eating places to choose from. You need never, in fact, have to eat in!  From breakfast to lunch to dinner, there’s always somewhere to enjoy great food. Maybe you fancy a takeaway? Grab a wood fired baked pizza from the deli.Buy a delicious pasty from the bakers or who can resist fish and chips sitting by the harbour. Parents can eat in peace whilst their children do their thing in the kids room in one of the family friendly restaurant. At that same establishment you can even watch a movie! If you love seafood, then Porthleven has it’s fair share of great fish restaurants. There are tea shops, cafes and for those who take their coffee seriously, a very good coffee shop. The village has three pubs, all have sea views.

I really wish I was back in Porthleven this weekend when the village stages its biggest event of the year. The Porthleven Food and Music festival is the place to be to enjoy Cornish food and music at it’s very best. Big names in the Cornish restaurant business will be there to entertain and demonstrate.I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the weather is kind for what will undoubtedly be a cracking weekend!
